Boulder, CO, - December 13, 2010 - With all of the standards in place for technology today, it's nearly as important to get certification for a correct product than marketing the product itself.

Percept Technology Labs, located in Boulder since 1996, is an independent product testing and consulting company. It specializes in compliance, product testing, and competitive analysis and testing, and assists in complete testing and global certification for technology firms.

Marty Best, owner of Percept Technology Lab, describes his company's operations, most simply, as "foundation engineering."

"When most companies design products, they worry about the form and function of the product -- how does it look and what does it do? There is a whole other area that they don't worry about -- the compliance needs," said Best, who explained that his company helps clients get their labs' documentation in order, and plan their certification process, to save them money in unnecessary testing.

The company employs six full-time workers, who try to keep up with technological changes as much as possible, as well as a dozen, contract-based consultants. Testing time can range from a few days to a year, and the business mainly specializes in certifications.

The local business also helps with international certification through partnerships with international distributors, and certification experts.

"If a company wants to go to Brazil, for example," said Best, "we would be the ones to help them get the paperwork done, and the certification complete."

"Part of the benefit of working with lots of products, is you see lots of different things. Without expecting to, you learn something new every time you do a product -- some specific element we hadn't anticipated, which is what makes it fun," said Best.

Percept Technology Labs has a wide range of companies that it has worked with -- including wind and solar management companies and technological companies that may have scaled back or moved productions overseas.

The company believes that the testing of products is especially important in today's competitive market, to avoid bad press, or costly recalls.

Mark Tilleman, the director of sales and marketing, stressed the stable growing opportunity that the company has, even through a fairly difficult economic time.

"It's never the same thing ... every product is different, and has different tests, like compliance, general standards, and safety standards. It all has its own unique issues and keeps you hopping for what the results will be," he said.

Marcelo Bergquist, in charge of operations at Tendril Energy Company, a business that provides energy monitoring equipment for utilities for power generation, was optimistic about his work with Percept Technology Labs.

"It's a great company," said Bergquist, who has worked for Tendril for the past three years. "Just a highly customer centric company."
